Cross crawl
The corpus callosum acts as a vital superhighway connecting our left and right brain hemispheres. As we nurture a sense of safety for our Scared Child* (left hemisphere) and allow our Innocent Child and Mystic (right hemisphere) to come forward, it is crucial to ensure open communication with our Backbone Parent (left hemisphere). Failure to do so can lead to a sense of disconnection in our lives. To maintain the clarity and accessibility of this communication pathway, we can engage in the following exercise, which acts as a metaphorical street sweeper.
Stand or lie down with your lower back pressed against the floor. Lift your left knee and simultaneously lower your right hand (or elbow) to touch the knee. Keep your abdominal muscles engaged throughout the exercise. Repeat this movement on both sides for 10-30 seconds. Also known as the ‘dead bug’ exercise when lying on your back.
If necessary, you can perform this exercise while seated in a chair to protect your back or if you have challenges with balance.
